In recognition of National Breast Cancer Month, Tropicalaser of Long Island participated in a fund raising event hosted by the Alpha Epsilon Phi Sorority of the Long Island University @ the CW Post Campus. The funds were distributed to a philanthropy called Sharsheret. Sharsheret is a national non-profit organization serving the unique concerns of women with breast cancer.
The organization was founded by Rochelle Shoretz, a former Law Clerk to United States Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg, after her own diagnosis at age 28. The organization recognizes that the concerns of pre-menopausal women facing breast cancer are unique.
Their cancers tend to be more aggressive, may result in early menopause, and are associated with higher mortality rates. Sharsheret was named a recipient of the New York State Innovation in Breast Cancer Early Detection and Research Award, and selected as a member of the LIVESTRONG Young Adult Alliance.
Although October is designated as National Breast Cancer Awareness Month, Tropicalaser is dedicated to raising awareness about breast cancer both on a national level and a local level throughout the year.
